My name is Nancy Schoepflin and I live in Simi Valley California
with my husband Larry and our three cats Honey, Heidi and Oreo.
My husband and I were both born in Los Angeles California. My
father passed away with cancer at the young age of thirty-two. I was two years old when he died. My mother remarried
a wonderful man seven years later, then we moved to Reseda, California.
When I was nineteen I married Larry Schoepflin. Larry and I moved
to Simi Valley about two years later.
My husband and I have been married now for thirty nine years,
we have two sons, one daughter-in-law, four grand daughters under 13 years.
I was raised around plants all of my life and I even worked in a florist
shop for seven years, but, I quit to start my own business.
My step father Earl Beck was employed at Armacost and Royston which was a
well known greenhouse in Los Angeles, California. My father was employed there from about 1955 through
the 70's and he was a hybridizer and care taker. They grew orchids then.
I grew up around all different kinds of plants, and my dad taught
me a lot.
I respect and admire those of you who are also growers and hobbyists of these
gorgeous plants.
ABOUT OUR BUSINESS:
We are a small grower. All of our plants are shipped through
the mail to their new homes, we are a mail order business.
We are a licensed green house by the California State
Agriculture Department here in Ventura County.
All the plants in our collection are hybrids which means they all
have names and most are registered.
I myself work alone and take care of all these plants by myself. My husband puts
up lights and shelves and that type of thing for me, and sometimes helps me water.
We specialize in mini african violets, we also grow the standard violets,
and wasps type african violets that bloom with a wasp flower. We do still grow some Streptocarpus.
This web site will go through some changes as I'm still working to
present an interesting web site for you to access and gather growing instruction, tips, and to view my pictures that I have
taken.
ABOUT OUR PLANTS:
Our plant growing area is kept spotless. Our tools
are always sterilized after each use. We use physan and sometimes bleach. This keeps us from spreading
diseases, bacteria etc.
If I see a problem I get right after it. I haven't had many
problems, I have been lucky.
I use pesticide chemicals routinely. Twice a Month I spray
with Neem Oil, it's a natural oil, and I do use systemic granules in my soil sometimes, and I use it when planting
up new streptocarpus plantlets.
Four times a year I spray with a miticide just in case.
We are all vulnerable to pest.
If you are outside and a thrips should land on your clothes,
hand, hair and then you come in and start working with your violets, it could be passed onto one of your violets unknowingly
and that's how it starts.
It's alway's a good idea to wash up before working with your
plants.
Well, I hope you have enjoyed your visit here today. Please come back
often as I update every two weeks or so. I'll be waiting to here from you.
Thank you!
